Pope to visit Germany in September


(July 20, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI will make a pastoral visit to Germany, September 22-25 the Vatican announced on Wednesday. The visit, which will take him to Berlin, Erfurt, Etzelsbach, Lahr and Freiburg, will be the German Pontiff’s third trip home since becoming pope in 2005. The theme of the Papal visit is “Where there is God, there is future”.
The Pope, will leave Rome on Thursday 22nd September for the International Airport of Berlin. On his first day, he will pay a courtesy visit to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Christian Wulff and to the Chancellor Angela Merkel. The same evening, he will visit Germany’s Parliament, meet the representatives of the Jewish Community and celebrate Mass at Berlin’s Stadium. On Friday, 23rd September the Pope will meet the Muslim Community at the Apostolic Nunciature and then fly to Erfurt, where he will visit the Cathedral, meet representatives of the Evangelical Church of Germany and hold an ecumenical meeting. The same evening he will celebrate Marian vespers at Etzelsbach. On Saturday, 24 Sept. he will celebrate morning Mass at Erfurt and fly to Freiburg to visit the Cathedral. The highlights of Saturday evening are a meeting with representatives of the Orthodox Churches and a prayer vigil with youth.
On Sunday, 25th September, his final day in Germany, the Pope will celebrate Mass at Freiburg and lunch with the Bishops at the local seminary. Before returning to Rome Sunday evening, the Pope will meet the judges of the Constitutional Court of Germany in Freiburg seminary and soon after the catholic workers engaged in local churches.
