Nelson Mandela International Day was inaugurated in 2009 on Mandela’s birthday: building on his life and on his legacy, Nelson Mandela Day, is celebrated across the world on July 18, the day Madiba himself celebrates his birthday.
Established by the United Nations in 2009, Mandela Day is a call to action for people everywhere to take responsibility for making the world a better place, one small step at a time, just as Nelson Mandela did.
