Communication technology is changing every day. Just as someone gets used to e-mail,
social networking becomes the next big thing. For the leaders of the Church, many
of whom went to schools where slide projectors and mimeograph machines were the latest
technology, keeping up can be a daunting task.
This is why the Bishops of Brazil
are attending a conference in Rio de Janeiro on how to use the new technology.
“Even
2000 years with the truth in our hand and our hearts, we have fallen a bit behind
the times in presenting the truth because the means of communication have changed
so swiftly, so quickly, we have a hard time,” says Elias Manning, Bishop of Valença.
“Most of the bishops are older men.”
He told Vatican Radio the conference involves
meetings with communications professionals.
“They are able to explain to us
much better in a few days things we would not have time to study on our own with our
activities in our diocese,” he said.
