At home and throughout the world, US citizens today celebrate the 235th anniversary
of the Independence of their nation. Vatican Radio’s Alessandro Gisotti is author
most recently of an Italian-language volume called l'11 Settembre: una storia che
continua – “September 11th, a story that goes on”, that takes an in-depth
look at the ongoing struggles, victories and trials – great and small – of people
and families touched by the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon,
as well as the heroic sacrifice of the passengers aboard the ill-fated United Flight
93. He told us that, in writing the book, he learned that the spirit of unity in which
the character of the nation has been formed, is what animates the celebration of American
independence today.
