Islamic violence continues in Nigeria

Muslim militants in Nigeria's restive northeast launched a series of attacks this weekend, killing at least 10 people. An explosion near police barracks in the city of Maiduguri on Sunday killed at least five people and wounded 10 others. The day before, three gunmen from the Boko Haram group shot and killed four people in Maiduguri. In an as-yet unverified statement, Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for a June 16 bombing of the national police headquarters that left at least two people dead. Boko Haram, which means, “Western education is sacrilege” in the local language, is responsible for a rash of killings which have targeted police officers, soldiers, politicians and clerics in Nigeria's north over the last year – including attacks on local beer parlours. They have also attacked churches and engineered a massive prison break. The group wants strict Shari’ a law implemented across the region. Listen RealAudioMP3
