Pope’s words to the Cardinals at anniversary lunch
(July 02, 2011) The experience of fraternity is an integral part of priesthood,
because one is not ordained for oneself but always inserted into the presbyterate,
so that the plural “we” of the church accompanies us from the moment of our ordination,
said Pope Benedict XVI, speaking off the cuff, to the 60 Cardinals present at the
lunch offered on his 60th ordination anniversary, in the Ducal hall of
the Vatican on Friday afternoon. Recalling memories of the past the Pope added that
almost everything had changed but what remained was loyalty to the Lord, who is the
same yesterday, today and forever. He remembered especially the unforgettable years
alongside Blessed John Paul II, and then on the 19th April 2005 the call
to the see of Peter. The Cardinal Vicar for Rome Agostino Vallini made known that
the total amount of 50000 euro gifted to the Pope by the Cardinal as an anniversary
gift, had been handed over to him for the needs of the poor in the city of Rome.
