Interview with "Bronzeworks" founder, Maestro Kay Cook
In June, Melodies & Memories was graced by the presence of Maestro Kay Cook, founder
and artistic director of the “Bronzeworks” bell ringers ensemble from Arizona, in
our studio. Listeners will know that an interview on my part is a rarity, and since
my interviewing skills are not particularly well-honed, I had to edit out my own “oohs”
and “aahs” from her commentary and splice in un-stammering questions before actually
assembling a program which was broadcast on June the 18th.
Maestro Kay Cook
provided me with wonderful material for Melodies & Memories “Strange & Extraordinary”
Saturday feature. Her passion for making music with handbells was nothing less than
volcanic, and the information she left recorded with us, is enough for another adventure
into the many mysteries of the art in July. It is my intention to assemble another
“Bronzeworks” program for this month with the comments that I could not include in
the June feature.
Thanks to Maestro Cook, I am less frightened of “the interview”.
She was such a gracious and truly fascinating guest, that I have begun to feel I might
actually enjoy experimenting with the form in the future!
