The Diocesan Church of Rome looks forward to Convention
(June 11, 2011) In the presence of the Pope Benedict XVI at John Lateran Basilica
on Monday 13th June, the Diocese of Rome will be concluding the pastoral year and
lunching the Diocesan convention, having as its logo the words from the Acts of the
Apostles, which read thus: they were cut to the heart. The reference is to
the reaction of the immense crowds of various cultures and tongues, that had listened
to the discourse of St Peter that first Pentecost morning. The complete line reads:
Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles,
'What are we to do, brothers?' As is clear from the context it speaks of the joy
of transmitting the faith of the Roman Catholic Church to the new generations.
This will the theme of the discussion following on the months of reflection in the
parishes and prefectures of the diocese; it will take off from the words of the Pope
on the first evening of the convention, after the greetings of the Cardinal Vicar
of Rome, Agostino Vallini. Then the Catechetical Director of the Vicariate , Mgr Andrea
Lonardo will report on the work of the Roman church organs involved in the transmission
of the faith. The second day will mark testimonies of committed Christians. Sessions
will conclude on Thursday 16th June.
