(June 10, 2011) An event on Blessed John Paul II is being organized later this month
at the United Nations in Geneva to commemorate the late Pope’s commitment to human
rights. The June 20th event titled, “The promotion of human rights and
John Paul II” is being sponsored by the permanent missions of the Holy See and Poland
in Geneva. Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, Holy See’s Peremanent Observer to the UN in
Geneva said that among those who will address the event are Vatican Secretary of State
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Israeli ambassador to the Holy See Mordechay Lewy and Hanna
Suchocka former Polish prime minister and current Polish ambassador to the Holy See.
The programme will also include screening of a documentary film and an exhibition
of postage stamps on the Polish Pope who was declared Blessed by Pope Benedict on
May 1 in the Vatican.
