(May 19, 2011) “Make Jesus the centre of everything, of your time of prayer, study
action and your entire life,” Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday, told the community of
Pontifical Theological Faculty Teresianum of Rome, that is celebrating the 75th
anniversary of its foundation. This faculty is an institution of higher education
established by the Carmelites for the study of scientific theology and anthropology.
Meeting them in the Vatican, the Pope praised the academic community saying
it is strengthened by the wealth of a great spiritual family, namely St. Teresa of
Avila and St. John of the Cross, who were witnesses of contemplative life and inflamed
Europe and the world. The Pope said the Church continues to recommend the practice
of spiritual direction, not only to those wishing to follow the Lord closely, but
to every Christian who wants to live with the responsibility his baptism renewing
a new life in Christ. The Pope urged the students of the faculty hailing from different
parts of the world to treasure what they learn and live a worthy life to love and
serve the Church.
