Another group of Indian bishops on "ad limina visit"
(May 05, 2011) A group of Catholic bishops from east and northeast India began
their ad limina visit to Rome on Thursday. It is a regular visit which heads of
dioceses are required to make every five years to report on the state of their jurisdictions.
Among those who had private audiences with Pope Benedict XVI were Archbishop Dominic
Jala of Shillong, Archbishop Dominic Lumon of Imphal, who is also Apostolic Administrator
of Kohima, Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil of Guwahati and Archbishop Lucas Sirkar
of Calcutta, along with his Coadjutor archbishop Thomas D’Souza. This year the
Indian bishops are making their ad limina visit to Rome which began in March with
the Syro-Malankara rite bishops. These visits will end in September.
