Holy See condemns manipulation of religion for hatred by slain Al Qaeda leader
(May 02, 2011) Condemning the hatred that Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden praised
and propagated, the Holy See said that every man has to answer to God and to man.
The Holy See’s spokesman, Fr. Federico Lombardi made the comment on Monday while responding
to journalists regarding the news of the death on Sunday in Pakistan of the terrorist
leader. U.S. President Barack Obama has declared that the world’s most-wanted terrorist
was killed on Sunday in a firefight with U.S. forces in Abbotabad, northeast of Islamabad,
and his body was recovered. “As we all know, Osama Bin Laden has had the very serious
responsibility of spreading division and hatred among people and exploiting religion
for this purpose” Fr. Lombardi told the press. The Jesuit priest however said that
while a Christian never rejoices over a death, he reflects on every one’s grave responsibility
before God and man, and hopes and commits himself so that every event does not become
an occasion for more hatred but for peace.
