Plans for Pope Benedict to call International Space Station
There are plans to arrange a satellite link between Pope Benedict XVI and the International
Space Station on May 4th, and would be the first time a Pope has called
space. The planned link-up will coincide with the final mission of the Space Shuttle
Endeavour, which is scheduled to leave from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral
on April 29th. On board the shuttle will be Italian astronaut Roberto Vittori,
who will be carrying a silver medallion which was given as a gift by Pope Benedict.
Another Italian, Paolo Nespoli is already on the International Space Station. All
the other astronauts will be American and Russian.
