Promulgation of Decrees of the congregation of saints
(April 02, 2011) Pope Benedict XVIth authorized on Saturday the promulgation of
13 decrees presented by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Five of these concerned
the approval of miracles in favour of Venerable Servants of God, clearing the way
for beatification, among whom 4 Italians and one Spaniard; then there were two concerning
martyrdom of Servants of God, one from France and the other from Spain, and thirdly
was the approval of the heroic virtues of six servants of God comprising 4 Italians,
1 Canadian and I German. For our broadcast region of South Asia we must highlight
2 names: in the first group of decrees, the cause of Venerable Servant of God, Clement
Vismara, professed priest of the Pontifical Institute of Foreign Missions (PIME)
born at Agrate Brianza in Italy and who would die at Mong Ping (Myanmar). He spent
65 of his 91 years in forests of Burma assisting Akhà and Ikò tribal
peoples, particularly children and widows. His colourful, courageous and persevering
work among the poor for 65 years make him a hero of the Pime Myanmar missions. The
way has been cleared for his beatification. From among the third group of decrees
we single out the Servant of God Tommaso Kurialcherry, first Bishop of Changanacherry
and founder of the sisters of the Adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament; he was born
at Champakulam in India on 14th January 1873 and died at Rome on 2nd
June 1925. Bishop Kurialcherry’s heroic virtues have been recognized and now as a
Venerable he waits for the first miracle attributed to his intercession, to proceed
on the way to beatification.
