Foreign ministers from 35 nations are gathering in London Tuesday to discuss their
next steps in Libya. The Holy See is participating in the London meeting, as well.
The Vatican is sending an official Observer to the sessions, in the person of the
Apostolic Nuncio in Great Britain, Archbishop Antonio Mennini. The Archbishop told
Vatican Radio that he hopes the international community will find a way to enforce
a ceasefire that will allow for effective humanitarian care to be given to those in
need. “A cease fire,” he said, is necessary, “in order to bring a concrete and effective
peace for all sides.” He also says there needs to be a workable roadmap for peace
in Libya – one that would be fair, “[To] all people in Libya, apart from their political,
religious or ethnic identity.”
