Pope meets pilgrims from the Italian diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia
(March 26, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI received in audience Saturday the numerous pilgrims
–about 8,000 - from the central Italian diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia, gathered
in Vatican’s Paul VIth audience hall on the occasion of the 30th anniversary
of the visit of Pope John Paul II to the steel factories of the city of Terni. That
was on the 19th of March 1981 After recalling the visit of his predecessor,
and his words of solidarity, friendship and love, the Pope broached the serious concerns
regarding the future of the steel industry and the consequent threat to the security
of workers and their families. I know he said that the diocesan Church feels great
responsibility as she stands by your side to share the hope of the gospel and to
communicate the strength to continue building a more just society, worthy of man,
always drawing from the perennial source of the Most Holy Eucharist.
