Vatican Dicastery for the New Evangelization

(12-03-2011) “The entire church regenerated by the Holy Spirit can present to the contemporary world a new missionary impetus that can answer the needs of modern times,” said Archbishop Rino Fisichella, President of the Vatican Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization on the occasion of the two study days convoked by his dicastery, and which concluded on Satuday. The Vatican Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization was instituted by Pope Benedict XVI on 21st September last year. The study days had tried to map out the future work of the Pontifical council. The world synod of Bishops, summoned for October 2012 will discuss this new evangelisation that has to hand down the Christian message, in persevering obedience to the command of the Lord to go and evangelize all nations. The New Evangelization is neither the first evangelization nor a re-evangelization, as Pope John Paul II said at Haiti on 9th March 1983. It is rather the re-weaving of the very texture of the church communities of the world. Not that there isn’t a deep religious sense but there is lacking an understanding as deep, to be able to communicate this faith to others, in all its richness of experience and patrimony
