Ash Wednesday ushers in the Lenten season, the forty day period of fasting, almsgiving
and prayer that helps Christians prepare for Easter. In the liturgy this day, we
are invited to reflect on how we can best incorporate these into our daily lives and
on our need for purification - to humbly remember that from dust we were born and
