Looking East and West
The unique role the Churches in Cyprus can play as a bridge between Europe and the
Middle East: that was focus of the opening session in Nicosia on Thursday of a meeting
of Catholic bishops from across south Eastern Europe. The meeting, organised by the
CCEE, the Council of European Bishops Conferences, is discussing the importance of
youth ministry, as young protesters continue to demand democratic changes in countries
across nearby North Africa and the Gulf Region. Philippa Hitchen is in Nicosia following the encounter for us:
