The Pontifical Council for Social Communications will be holding its plenary assembly
from Monday, reflecting on the way in which new digital technologies have created
a new language - one which children are often teaching to their parents and grandparents.
Philippa Hitchen spoke with council president Archbishop Claudio Celli about how the
Church is rising to the challenge of adapting to this profound cultural transformation....
Listen:
"I think the
source of our reflection is the last message of the Holy Father for World Communications
Day, in which he invited us to think about the fact that new technologies are not
only changing our way of communication, but are also having a deep cultural transformation.
We
must consider there is a new way of learning, a new way of thinking and certainly
through new technology we have a great opportunity to establish human relations and
build communion.
It's a delicate point because these new languages are really
influencing our way of life....you can perceive how children today are influencing
the culture of their parents and grandparents as today you have grandparents using
the internet to chat with their children and grandchildren...
