Pope to address world of art and culture in Venice
On Tuesday the Vatican Press Office released the itinerary of Pope Benedict XVI’s
pastoral visit to the North eastern Italian cities of Venice and Aquileia in May.
The first leg of the two day visit is to Aquileia on May 7th. There
the Pope will meet with city representatives and later, in the city’s basilica, he
will address participants at the Preparatory Assembly for the Second Ecclesial Meeting
of Aquileia.
Saturday evening the Holy Father will travel to Venice. After
a greeting from local authorities in the iconic St Mark’s Square, he will visit the
basilica to venerate the relics of Saint Mark.
On Sunday May 8th,
Pope Benedict will celebrate mass in Mestre, at St Julian’s Park. After lunch with
bishops from Italy’s North-east region, the Holy Father will return to the St. Mark’s
Basilica, where he will address ecclesial representatives from the Diocese of Venice.
Pope
Benedict’s last appointment before returning to Rome Sunday evening, is an encounter
with the world of culture, art and economics, in the Basilica della Salute.
