(January 25, 2011) We cannot remain tranquil at the thought that after two thousand
years, there are still many people who do not know Christ and his message of salvation.
Pope Benedict XVI affirmed this on Tuesday in his message for World Mission Day to
be celebrated 23rd October. The Papal message says that to spread
the word of God is a universal mission and involves everyone. It is not the exclusive
property of those who received it, but it is a gift to be shared. Stating that
there are many, who have received the good news of the Gospel but have either forgotten
or abandoned it, and seek easy money, career and success as the goal of life, even
at the expense of moral values, the Pope’s message says World Mission Day is a valuable
opportunity to pause and reflect on how to respond to our missionary vocation and
spread the Good News, which is essential for the life of the Church. The Pope says
the objectives of World Mission, through Vatican’s Pontifical Societies is to carry
on the tasks of evangelization in mission territories and bring the good news of
the Gospel to everyone. By participating responsibly in the mission of the Church,
every Christian becomes a builder of communion, peace and solidarity that Christ has
given us, he says. The Pope concludes his message saying “May Mission Day rekindle
in everyone the desire and joy to bring Christ’s salvific message to all Humanity:
