Cardinal Levada releases Asian edition of Light of the World
(January 22, 2011) A top Vatican official on Thursday released a special Asian edition
of Pope Benedict’s latest book, "Light of the World", in southern India’s Bangalore
city. Entitled "Light of the World. The Pope, the Church and the Signs of the Times,”
is an interview with him by German journalist Peter Seewald. Cardinal Willian Levada,
Prefect of the Vatican’s congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, released the
book published by the Asian Trading Corporation (ATC), a Bangalore based Christian
Literature Distribution and Publishing house. The 65 year old publishing company
is the only one to be granted an initial permission for a paperback edition by the
Vatican Publishing House. In other continents, paperback editions will be made available
only after a year. In the book, the German pontiff answers questions on wide-ranging
and controversial issues such as clergy abuse, human sexuality, contraception, priestly
celibacy, women priests, dialogue, Christian unity, papacy, and relativism with profound
simplicity. The overall vision of the Church that emerges is one that is called to
be the `Light of the world`, a sign of unity for the whole human race.
