Italian Archbishop appointed Holy See’s Permanent Observer to Rome based UN Organisations
(January 05, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday appointed Italian Archbishop Luigi
Travaglino as Holy See’s Permanent Observer to three Rome-based United Nations
Organisations, namely Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO; The International
Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD and the World Food Program, WFP. Italian
Archbishop Luigi Travaglino was born at Brusciano in Naples in 1939. He was ordained
priest IN 1962 and consecrated Bishop in 1992. He served as Apostolic Pro-Nuncio
to Gambia, Guinea and Liberia in 1992 and three years later, as Apostolic Nuncio
to Nicaragua. In 2001 he was appointed official of the Vatican Secretariat of State.
