Nashik gets new bishop


(November 11,2010) Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday appointed Bishop Lourdes Daniel, as the Bishop of Nasik in western India’s Maharashtra State. Prior to the new appointment, he was the Bishop of Amravati in the same State and the Apostolic Administator of Nashik. Born in Pune, Maharashtra State, 10 Feb. 1947, he was ordained priest 19 April 1980 and consecrated bishop on 8 June, 2007. He succeeds Nashik’s first Jesuit Bishop Thomas Bhalerao, who was appointed on May 15, 1987 and retired in 2007.
Nashik Diocese has an area of some 57,592 sqm and is a suffragan of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Bombay.
