It's been under construction since 1882 and receives between 8,000 and 10,000 visitors
a day even though it's not finished ... such is the fame of the Holy Family or Sagrada
Familia basilica in Barcelona. The church that was consecrated by Pope Benedict during
his visit to the Spanish city on Sunday is considered the masterpiece of the Catalan
architect Antoni Gaudi who died in 1926. Lydia O'Kane spoke to the chief architect
of the project, Jordi Bonet, and asked him how difficult it has been to carry on Gaudi's
vision for the church. Bonet says "it was not so easy" ... but it helped that
his father was also an architect and a friend of Gaudi. During the course of his
studies and work Bonet said he came to "understand many of the problems and the solutions
that Gaudi has given to his design with the help of geometry."
