Final session mulls Synod's propositions for Middle East
The synod of bishops for the Middle East held its last session Friday, with Pope Benedict
XVI presiding over the final general congregation before Saturday's vote on the Synod’s
draft propositions. Once agreed, the 41 points will be given to the Pope as suggestions
for use in his post-synodal apostolic exhortation. The Synod itself concludes Sunday
with mass in St Peter’s. Reflecting on the outcome of the two week gathering, the
Archbishop of Haifa, Paul El-Sayah, told Tracey McClure that “ultimately what matters
is how it impacts the daily lives of Christians in the Middle East”, adding that many
of the faithful from his own diocese “still want to emigrate”. Listen:
