The Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Middle East is into its second
week, with the synod fathers continuing their small group sessions.
Chris Altieri
spoke with the Rome correspondent for the UK’s Catholic Herald newspaper, Edward Pentin
about how the synod organizers are handling relations with the media and how the press
are covering the event.
Pentin says coverage has been good overall, especially
by the Catholic outlets. Mainstream media, however, are still struggling to find a
way to talk about the special assembly. “To some extent that is expected,” said Pentin.
“There have not been a lot of news pegs.”
Pentin told us he expects mainstream
media coverage to pick up when the conclusions of the synod are announced. Listen:
