Pope Benedict XVI today proclaimed Australia's first saint. He canonised Mary MacKillop
a 19th-century nun and also declared five other saints in an open-air Mass in St Peter’s
Square attended by tens of thousands.
One of those taking part in the in today’s
celebration was Australian Cardinal George Pell told Vatican Radio that he “was immensely
pleased and honoured to be part of today’s ceremony.
The Cardinal added that
Saint Mary MacKillop “was a woman of faith dedicated to service.” Listen
