As from the 12th October Sydney-siders are being blessed by the spectacular display
of seeing the kindly face of Blessed Mary MacKillop beamed onto the iconic Sydney
Harbour Bridge pylons every night this week, in the lead-up to the Canonisation which
takes place in St Peter's Square on Sunday 17th October.The Sydney Harbour Bridge
display is the latest in a series of initiatives from civic authorities to help acknowledge
the historic occasion of the Canonisation of Australia’s first declared Saint. Sr
Sheila McCreanor , Secretary General of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart
is among the 150 sisters in Rome for the occasion alongside other estimated 8000
Australians. She speaks to Veronica Scarisbrick about how this saint to be is being
viewed in the media .. "...people in the media these days see Mary as a model for
Australians, someone who I think reflects the core values that Australians prize ..giving
everyone a fair go , standing up for those who are the under dog , those being forgotten
by society , standing up to authority when necessary, being inclusive and trying
