North Koreans catch rare glimpse of reclusive leader
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il appeared on Sunday with his youngest son Kim Jung
Un at a massive military parade in Pyongyang. This is the first time the two have
been seen publicly together at an official event with foreign media since Kim Jung
Un was a child. The parade was part of a larger celebration in honor of the 65th
anniversary of the workers party, which has been the ruling party of North Korea for
the entire history of the small secluded nation. The event was broadcast live on North
Korean State TV, which was possibly the first time most north Koreans have ever seen
Kim Jong Un live on television. Little is known about Kim Jong Un, who is believed
to be 27 years old, and was educated in Switzerland. Recently he was appointed to
the position of vice chairman of the workers party military commission, and also made
a four star general.
