The Arab League meets in Libya Friday to discuss whether the Palestinians should continue
direct peace talks with Israel.
They have threatened to abandon talks if Israel
doesn't renew a freeze on settlement building in the West Bank, which expired last
month.
The Obama administration has urged the Arab League to support the negotiations,
but declined to comment on reports of an American incentive package intended to advance
talks.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the process can succeed if all
parties remain commited to peace.
In Israel, there has been high-level debate
and discussion of a controversial loyalty oath that some observers think could ultimately
be aimed at appeasing the hard-line faction within the governing coalition, and allowing
the settlement building freeze to be renewed.
