"You will be my witness" is the theme of the Centenary Assembly of the World Union
of Catholic Women's Organisations or WUCWO, that is taking place in Jerusalem this
week. The president of WUCWO is Karen Hurley and she spoke to Tracey McClure about
their key objectives....
.."the objectives are, first and foremost, to celebrate
100 years of service, by women for women, for the Church and society... and it's appropriate
that we've come to the Holy Land, to the roots of our faith, the land where Jesus
walked, so we can encounter Him in a very special way..... as a way of witnessing
our faith, of celebrating who we are and what we do as Catholic women..."
"The
women around the world are doing work primarily in the areas of: respect for life,
whether it be for the unborn, for the aging, for those suffering from Aids.......a
lot of the women are doing advocacy work, advocating for God's moral laws within the
governments and within international forums like the U.N..... and we're working to
protect the environment..."
