Pope Benedict XVI’s Address to the Congress of the Catholic Press
(October 07, 2010) The task of the catholic Press is to help lead contemporary man
towards Christ, the only Saviour and keep alive the flame of hope in the world so
that all may live dignified lives. Pope Benedict XVI said this to the members of the
catholic press on Thursday at the end of their four day Congress in Rome. The Pope
told them that the world media has also undergone a profound transformation in recent
years. The search for truth must be pursued by Catholic journalists with dispassionate
mind and heart but at the same time with the professionalism making them competent,
well equipped and effective. Today said the Pontiff communication has become increasingly
important with the development of new technologies, which however, can make true and
false, interchangeable and can confuse the real with the virtual. The print evokes
more directly than any other means of communication, the value of the written word.
The Word of God came to men and has been handed down to us through a book, the Bible,
he said. The Catholic press is called in a special way to deliver fully its potential
to the world and account for its daily indispensable mission to communicate positively.
The Church at the same time gives the message of salvation to the world and the means
by which it is realized. This is the common challenge for the Church today and for
all who share its mission. The Pontiff cautioned them that, we as Christians can not
ignore the crisis of faith that exists in society. The idea of living as if God does
not exist has proved to be detrimental for the society, and the world needs God today
more than ever before. Pope Benedict then urged them to constantly renew their personal
choice for Christ and orient their life to him.
