First Joyful Mystery : the Annunciation

“ October is the month of the Holy Rosary, during which we are invited to enhance this prayer so dear to the tradition of the Christian people. I invite you dear young people to recite the Rosary daily. I encourage you, dear people who are sick , to grow, thanks to the recitation of the Rosary , to abandon yourselves trustingly in the hands of God. I call on you dear newly weds to make use of the Rosary so as to constantly contemplate the Mysteries of Christ.”

From Pope Benedict XVI’s words on the eve of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary which falls each year on the 7th October.

Having listened to the Holy Father's words we thought we'd share with you a series of musical programmes focusing on the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary . Beginning with the first of these: the Annunciation . As we pray the Rosary we're invited to meditate on the particular scene that the Mystery evokes, and to enter deeply into it as we recite the Our Father , the Hail Mary's and the Gloria Patri . Sometimes art can help us to focus our minds prayerfully on the Mystery , sometimes music can help . Music historian Monsignor Philip Whitmore in a programme produced by Veronica Scarisbrick .
