Vatican’s top official encourages catholic media to spread Gospel values
(Oct.06,2010) The prayerful greetings of Pope Benedict XVI were conveyed to those
in the service of the Catholic Media by Vatican Secretary of State, when he celebrated
Mass for them on Wednesday morning in St. Peter’s Basilica. Addressing the members
of the Catholic Press Congress that concludes its four-day meeting on Thursday, Cardinal
Tarciscio Bertone told them in his homily that their task is great, particularly if
one takes into account the limited media resources at their disposal.. But he encouraged
them to spread the message of the Gospel, as there is an urgent need for faith today.
He told the large gathering that the Church has always been a witness of the preaching
and actions, with which Jesus announced the Kingdom of God, and now they must communicate
the Good News to the world. He said the Catholic media has a great responsibility
and must give information without succumbing to temptation, which is noted today,
among some journalists, who give space to party or sectarian interests – political,
economic or even religious. He urged them to be authentic in their information and
told them to pray in this month of the Rosary to the Virgin Mary to help them serve
generously and truthfully in the media world.
