Thai Court Ruling Could Complicate Extradition of Arms Dealer
A Thai court ruled on Monday against dropping extra changes against suspected Russian
arms dealer Viktor Bout. The decision could complicate US efforts to extradite
him. An appeals court on Aug. 20 ruled to allow his extradition to the United States,
though the U.S. filed new charges which had to be dropped formally before he could
be extradited. Under Thai law, a defendant can object to charges against him being
dropped, a right of which which Bout availed himself, thus stalling the extradition
process.
