Vatican Radio celebrates feast of Patron

(Sept.29,2010) “In our age, characterized by certain media, who seem to hunt for bad news and underestimate the true human and Christian values, your job is to communicate hope,” Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican State, told a large number of Vatican Radio’s employees. The prelate made the remarks in his homily at a special Mass celebrated Wednesday morning in Vatican Radio’s chapel on the Feast of Archangel Gabriel, Patron of the Radio. He told the large number of Vatican Radio’s administrators, journalists and technicians, who attended the Mass, that he is aware their task is a difficult one, that requires fortitude and special help from above, and he encouraged them to entrust their important service to the protection of their patron saint – Archangel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary. Archbishop Viganò praised all those who work at Vatican Radio saying their valuable and daily broadcasting, contributes to spreading the Good News, and the manifold activities of the Pope - his meetings with heads of State, diplomats, representatives of various religions, and his numerous pastoral visits to different parts of the world, including the last difficult but successful journey to Great Britain. The prelate said communication is very meaningful and important for those in distant places, who are unable to be near the Holy Father but can see him through the service of Vatican Television Centre and hear him through the broadcasts of Vatican Radio.
Stressing on the importance of the media in our age, Archbishop Viganò urged them to be authentic and credible messengers to all those who listen to Vatican Radio. We will attain this goal, he said, with the strength of God, along with Archangel Gabriel, whom we invoke and the intercession of Archangels Michael and Raphael, whom we honour today.
