Conversion of England

Monsignor Peter Fleetwood speaks to Veronica Scarisbrick about the importance for English Catholics today of such figures as Thomas More , Mary Ward , Edmund Campion and Cardinal John Henry Newman whom Benedict XVI will beatify in Brimingham on Sunday 19th September:

"...lots of people who are aware of literature.. will be fascinated by Newman ..the bulk of the people who will be interested will be Catholics...those who came to England from Italy at the time of his reception into the Catholic Church were part of a movement ...a time when people spoke often of the conversion of England and I don't think that meant making England Catholic again so much as bringing the Gospel back to life.."
