Interfaith encounter: Archbishop Patrick Kelly will be hosting this papal event...
On the second day of his forthcoming visit to the United Kingdom, Pope Benedict will
meet with representatives of nine different faith groups present in the country to
address issues of interfaith dialogue and cooperation. Hosting that meeting will
be the Archbishop of Liverpool, Patrick Kelly, who gave Philippa Hitchen a sneak preview
of this important encounter…
“I think it
has deep significance that the first speech will be given by the Chief Rabbi Lord
Jonathan Sacks…….”
“…We’ve always got to keep in mind there are three very
significant stages in our history…the all horrendous story which touched the city
of Liverpool so profoundly that is the slave trade…..then you move on into the whole
challenge and the history of empire and new relationships with new peoples, then commonwealth,
and then related immigration, all of those things have given a very specific aspect
to relationships between cultures, races, faiths and religions in our particular country..
