Salesians in Kerala launch institute for film, design and animation
(August 16, 2010) The Salesians of Don Bosco in southern India’s Kerala state have
launched a new college of multimedia engineering at Vennala, on the occasion of the
August 16th birth day of their founder St. John Bosco, popularly known
as Don Bosco. Vennala’s new Don Bosco Institute of Multimedia, Animation, Graphics
and Effects (DB IMAGE) is the first Don Bosco Media institute in Kerala. The other
DB media institutions in the state are: DB IGACT for printing and graphic arts and
DB College for Masters in Communicative Journalism (MCJ) at Angadikadav, Kannoor.
DB Image is a 20,000-sqft fully furnished facility on the third floor of the Don Bosco
Communications building. Speaking ahead of Monday’s inauguration, DB Image director,
Fr Jiji Kalavanal said they have gone all out to invest in a state of the art facility
for their students. A fourth floor is being prepared with shooting floors and classrooms.
The entire institute is lit by LED light bulbs, cutting down heavily on electricity
consumption. Training is offered in audio and video editing, scriptwriting, direction,
animation, graphic design, web design, photography, videography and offset printing.
Currently the institute offers Diploma courses in film making. From 2011 they hope
to launch degree course and a post graduation diploma in these disciplines with possibility
also for distance learning. The economically backward students will have easy bank-loan
facility which they need to pay back only after they begin to earn.
