(23 Apr 10 - RV) Pope Benedict XVI today accepted the resignation of the bishop of
Bruges, Belgium, Roger Vangheluwe, after the bishop admitted to abusing a young boy.
The
Bishop issued a statement in which he acknowledges his guilt, saying the abuse began
when he was a priest and continued for a certain time after he had been ordained bishop.
Vangheluwe
was named bishop of Bruges in December of 1984, receiving ordination to the episcopate
in February, 1985.
