Pope’s general prayer intention for April.

( March 31, 2010) Pope Benedict XVI's General Prayer intention for the month of April is that every tendency to fundamentalism and extremism, may be countered by respect, tolerance and dialogue among believers. The Pope asks us to pray that believers will overcome religious fundamentalism and extremism by following the right principles. The Pope has often said that religion cannot be imposed, but only proposed with the hope, that the truth will sway those, who hear it to accept the Gospel. Other religions affirm the same principle of religious freedom, which is unfortunately often rejected by some fundamentalist groups. This month’s general intention says that by the power of the Holy Spirit, Christ’s followers loved even their enemies and bravely continued to witness to the resurrection of the Lord.
Let us pray that by the power of the Holy Spirit, we too can be faithful to the challenging words Jesus spoke in the Sermon on the Mount “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of the Heavenly Father”
