( March 25,2010) The Holy Shroud of Turin in northern Italy will be displayed for
the first time this millennium from April10 to May 22. The news was announced at a
Press Conference held in the Vatican on Thursday. Many Catholics believe the Holy
Shroud is the cloth in which the crucified body of Jesus was placed, leaving an imprint
of his image on it. Cardinal Severino Poletti. Archbishop of Turin and Custodian
of the Holy Shroud said Pope Benedict XVI will be paying a visit to the Shroud
on May 2. He said the Pope will first pause for personal prayer before the Holy Shroud,
and then celebrate Mass in Piazza San Carlo. As Cardinal Ratzinger, leading the Congregation
for the Doctrine of the Faith, he had visited it previously on its first display
in 1998 . It will be the first public showing of the Shroud since it underwent restoration
in 2002.
