He was addressing the personnel of ACEA on Saturday, 6th of February at the Vatican as they completed their centenary celebrations. The Pope said that for the past one hundred years the company has grown, since the citizens of Rome, by popular referendum, chose that public lighting and public transport were to be under their care. Thus over the years they have provided plurality of services and continue to provide to the City, by supporting and encouraging the transformation into a modern metropolis. The Holy Father was pleased with the “Charter of Values" and "Code of Ethics”, which calls for the principles of accountability, transparency, fairness, the spirit of service and collaboration which specifies the work of the ACEA. The Pope then reminded them of his Message for World Day of Peace this year, that the "the adoption of a development model based on the centrality of human persons is essential for the promotion and sharing of the common good, on responsibility and the awareness of the necessary change in lifestyle." Finally, the Holy Father called on them to look to Christ, the perfect man, to take the example of his actions in order to grow in humanity, and so provide the city with human outlook, in which everyone is cared for and lives as a spiritual person in relationship with others. It is due to their commitment to improving interpersonal relationships and quality of work, Rome will continue to assume that role of a leading civilization, which has made it famous down the centuries.
