Vatican Secretary of State thanks Italian carabinieri police for service
(Feb.02,2010): On the feast of the Presentation of our Lord in the Temple celebrated
on Tuesday (Feb 2), Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarciscio Bertone visited
the Nativity Crib of the Carabinieri, or the Italian Military Police near the Vatican.
Addressing the General Commander of the Police, Leonardo Gallitello and other police
officials present, Cardinal Bertone thanked them for the daily task they perform
to guard places around Vatican City, and for facilitating his service to the Church
and Pope Benedict XVI. He also thanked them for their service to protect the pilgrims
who visit the Tomb of St. Peter, and the Vatican to meet the Pope, and be confirmed
by him in the faith and live experiences of prayer and communion. Praising their
Nativity crib, Cardinal Bertone said it is a wonderful event to mark the poor and
humble coming of the Word of God among us. It reminds us, he said, of how this representation
is not a distant scene but a part of our lives. Each one of us is living an active
part of that manger, which carries the historic salvation, said Cardinal Bertone.
