French philosopher awarded “Pope John Paul II” Human Rights prize
(Dec.10,2009): Pope Benedict XVI gave the “Pope John Paul II” Human Rights Award
to French philosopher Andre Glucksmann on Wednesday at the end of the weekly general
audience. The award is given to persons, who distinguish themselves in promoting and
protecting human rights, according to the teachings of late Pope John Paul II. The
brief ceremony held in a small room adjoining Vatican’s Audience Hall was attended
by members of the jury, among them Cardinal Franciszek Macharski..
