(November 30, 2009) Pope Benedict XVI on Monday received in the Vatican President
Alan García Pérez of Peru and discussed with him issues such as poverty eradication
and the environment. A Vatican note said that during the cordial talks there was
a fruitful exchange of views on the current international current situation, especially
in South America. The two leaders then talked about some aspects of the situation
in Peru, in particular the government’s commitment to eradicate poverty, promote the
rule of law, protect the environment, as well as areas of collaboration between the
Church and state.
