Pope to usher in Advent season with Saturday Vespers

(November 27, 2009) Pope Benedict XVI will usher in the Advent season on Saturday evening, leading the traditional First Vespers of the First Sunday of Advent in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. With the start of Advent, in preparation for Christmas, the Church begins a new liturgical calendar. The Pope’s Vespers on Saturday will be preceded by a period recollection that will include prayers, readings and chanting of psalms and hymns.
