Vietnam: 100 New HIV Infections Every Day

(16 Oct 09 - RV) Vietnam has one of the fastest growing HIV infection rates in Asia, with more than 4 million people now dependent on anti-retroviral treatment and an estimated 100 new infections every day. Father John Toai, a Vietnamese Camillian priest, is attending the three day conference on preventing HIV infection in children taking place here in Rome under the joint-sponsorship of the US Embassy to the Holy See and Caritas Internationalis.
He spoke to Philippa Hitchen about the Church’s role in caring for HIV/AIDS victims.
